Sustainability in practice: Karpack’s efficient waste strategy with the Kempenaars Group

Karpack, a dynamic company that is always at the forefront of sustainable initiatives, has taken a big step towards effective waste management together with the Kempenaars Group. When Karpack was building its new facilities, we collaborated to find the most efficient way of internally collecting and disposing of waste streams.

The result of this collaboration is a state-of-the-art compaction unit installed in early 2022, which enables Karpack to handle cardboard and film streams more efficiently and environmentally consciously. Karpack’s new four-wheeled plastic containers collect cardboard internally. Thanks to a clever tilting mechanism, they can then be easily emptied into the compaction unit. Thanks to the containers’ automatic full notification, Karpack staff no longer have to worry about when they need to be emptied, ultimately reducing CO2 emissions and the number of necessary transport trips.

This approach has a double advantage: not only does it reduce CO2 emissions due to less transport, but by compacting the material in the container, fewer trips are needed, saving even more CO2. On top of that, Karpack also exploits the potential of cardboard, which can be reused up to 25 times. The collected cardboard is processed by the Kempenaars Group and reused as raw material for new cardboard, a perfect example of recycling.

The prices for these recycling services are linked to the ‘Market Reports Waste Paper’ market price indication, which assures Karpack of fair and market-based pricing. All this means that Karpack is completely unburdened in terms of waste management at the right price while also reducing its carbon footprint.

In this way, Karpack’s waste management has improved, and together, we are playing a leading role in the circular economy.
